Understanding USB Power Delivery

USB-C was promised as the "one cable to rule them all." Yet, for many users, it has become a source of frustration—a maze of varying wattages, incompatible protocols, and generic "fast charging" labels.

At Littleist, we believe transparency is the foundation of trust. To understand why the LP-90 performs the way it does, one must understand the protocol that governs it: USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.1.

What is USB PD 3.1?

USB Power Delivery is a protocol used by USB-C devices to negotiate power levels. Before a single electron moves at high speed, the charger and the device engage in a digital "handshake" via the Communication Channel (CC) lines in the cable.

In Plain English: Think of USB PD 3.1 as the "language" your charger and laptop use to talk to each other. They "discuss" how much power is needed before the charger sends it over, ensuring your device gets exactly what it can handle—no more, no less.

The "Goldilocks" Zone: Why 90W?

The LP-90 operates at the peak of the Standard Power Range. By targeting 90W, we achieved massive power without the bulk of 140W+ "EPR" chargers. 90W delivers enough power to charge a MacBook Pro 14" at high speed while maintaining a footprint smaller than a deck of cards.

Custom Fitting with PPS

With Programmable Power Supply (PPS), your device tells the LP-90 exactly what voltage it needs in tiny 20mV increments. The LP-90 adjusts its output at the source, resulting in up to 10% less heat generated inside your device, leading to better battery longevity.

Analogy: Traditional charging is like buying a suit "off the rack." PPS is like a "custom-tailored suit"—the charger adjusts perfectly to your device's exact needs.
